The Shagfoal is a legendary spirit supposedly
haunting parts of northern Lincolnshire, UK. It is supposed to be a large black donkey with glowing red eyes. The Shagfoal was said to wander deserted country lanes at night seeking souls to devour. Its name is possibly related to the East Anglian demon dog Black Shuck, both names deriving from the Anglo-Saxon Scucca, meaning demon. In the town of Grimsby there once existed a street which was said to be frequented by the spirit called "Shagfoal Lane". Parents still warn their children against staying out late at night in case the Shagfoal catches them.
