A straight in hold'em is the same as a straight in any other game: five cards with successive ranks, such as 45678.
In Hold'em they are played a bit differently than in other games since to have a straight means the community cards must make a straight possible. And anytime a straight is possible for you it means it is possible for another player as well.
For example if you have T9 and the board shows JKQ you have a straight. But so would a player with AT. In this case you would have the inferior straight.
A straight are five cards that are consecutive in rank, regardless of suit, for example; 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
A straight flush is suited as well as being consecutive, for example; 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 of hearts.
Let's say you hold AK and the board has TJx. You are drawing to an inside straight, that is, if the Q comes it makes the straight. This is called having "two overcards and an inside straight draw". (Of course an A or K might come and give you a winning pair, but that is a different subject...)
An open-ended straight has double the possibilities of hitting. If you have KQ and the board shows TJx, then either an A or a 9 will make your straight.
Any five consecutive cards. like 1 2 3 4 5 or 7 8 9 10 jack. the cards don't have to be all the same suit but if they are then its called a straight flush. That's the second highest Poker hand besides the royal flush.
Five consecutive cards in a row of any suit. It's okay if they are of mixed suits, but must be at least 2 different suits. They can start any where from Ace to King, Ace being low or high, but must be consecutive. A straight beats card high, a pair, two pair, and three of a kind.
It is made of five cards, a combination of straight and flush. All five cards should be of same suit, and they should be in a sequence. However the sequence AKQJT is not a straight flush, but a special case being the highest hand and is called royal flush.
A straight is a combination of 5 following cards in Poker.
