The subject of a sentence is what the sentence is about. For example:
Jane walks her dog.
Jane is the subject, as the verb is what she is doing.
Dog is also a noun, but it is the object, as it is what the action is being done to.
The verb of a sentence is the action and the noun is either a person, place, or thing.
Lets use the following simple sentence as an example:
The frog jumps.
The nouns of this sentence would be frog because it falls under the category "thing".
To find the verb, you need to ask yourself what the object is doing. Using the sentence above you can ask the question "What is the frog doing?". The answer is "jumps". Therefore, the verb (action) is jumps.
In active sentences the subject comes before the verb. The verb shows the action or state and the subject is 'doer' of the action.

I like ice cream. The dog likes ice cream.
