The word "subterranean" is superfluous by definition, but essentially a cavern is a large void in the rock.
Normally the term is applied a bit loosely to refer to particularly long, natural caves with many large chambers and passages; but is sometimes used to describe very large, man-made, underground chambers.
A subterranean cavern is an underground chamber or cavity formed by natural processes such as erosion, dissolution, or volcanic activity. These caverns can be large or small, with unique features such as stalactites, stalagmites, and underground lakes.
Not all pyramids have subterranean chambers. Some pyramids, like the Pyramid of Khufu in Egypt, do have subterranean chambers, while others, like the Pyramid of the Sun in Mexico, do not. The presence of subterranean chambers depends on the design and purpose of each pyramid.
The capacity of a cavern can vary significantly depending on its size and shape. Some caverns can hold a few dozen people, while larger ones can accommodate hundreds or even thousands. It ultimately depends on the specific cavern's dimensions and safety regulations.
To access the Ancient Cavern in RuneScape, you need to have started the Barbarian Training activity. Once you have reached a certain point in the training, you'll be able to enter the cavern via the whirlpool near the Baxtorian Falls.
Peak Cavern in England has been historically used for mining lead and as a rope-making facility. Today, it is mainly used for guided tours and as a concert venue due to its unique acoustics.
A small cave is often referred to as a grotto or a cavern.
Emergence Cave, Subterranean Complex, Frontier Cavern, Hole of Beasts, Bulblax Kingdom, Snagret Hole, Citadel of Spiders, Glutton's Kitchen, Shower Room, Submerged Castle, and Cavern of Chaos.
A tunnel or a mineshaft is a subterranean passageway.
The Submerged Castle is the cavern in the northeast area of the Perplexing Pool. The area around it is submerged in water (hence the name) so only blue Pikmin can be brought into it.
TBH the adjective is superfluous by definition! 'Cavern' is usually applied to a very large, usually natural but sometimes artificial, subterranean chamber. Sometimes it is applied to an entire cave system, especially if part of it is opened up for tourists - e.g. Carlsbad Caverns, Kent's Cavern. It tends not to be used in formal speleological writing: it is a 'chamber' whether of 10m3 or 1000m3 volume.
