Please don't assume that because a coin is old it has to be made out of silver.

All nickels struck from 1866 to 1942 and 1945 to the present are made of 75% copper and 25% nickel.

No Morgan dollars were minted between 1905 and 1920 inclusive. Please check your coin again and post a new question.

If the date is in fact 1908 it is a counterfeit. There has been a flood of fakes over the last couple of decades, some very good and others really bad, with impossible dates and incorrect designs.

Assuming the coin is circulated and has no mintmark, the 1908 Barber Quarter is a fairly common date. For an accurate assessment of value the coin needs to be seen and graded. Most coins show a lot of wear. In general retail values for low grade coins are $7.00-$10.00, better grade are $20.00-$55.00 and coins showing almost no wear run from $75.00-$170.00. Values are a market average and only for coins in collectible condition, coins that are bent, corroded, scratched, used as jewelery or have been cleaned have far less value if any to a collector or dealer.

Assuming the coin is circulated and has no mintmark, the 1908 Barber quarter is a common, higher mintage date coin. For an accurate assessment of value the coin needs to be seen and graded. Most examples have seen heavy use and show a lot of wear. In general retail values for low grade coins are $10.00-$30.00, better grade are $35.00-$60.00 and coins showing almost no wear run from $70.00-$170.00. Values are a market average and only for coins in collectible condition, coins that are bent, corroded, scratched, used as jewelery or have been cleaned have far less value if any to a collector or dealer.

Did they make silver dollars in 1908?

There were no historical re-strikes of the 1880 Morgan dollar (as in, dollars dated 1880 that were made in, say, 1882), however the basic design of the Morgan dollar remained constant from 1878-1921 when it was discontinued in favour of the Peace Dollar. However, as with all historical coins there is the possibility of counterfeits, though, the 1880 Morgan dollar would be unlikely to be targeted (it isn't a rare date and most circulated examples trade for close to melt with the exception of the 1880-CC issue which is a bit higher but by no means an incredibly expensive coin) and most (modern) counterfeit coins would be off-metal strikes because of this (as in, the coin is struck in lead, white-metal or is silver-plated copper) and would be easy to identify.

What is the value of a 1906 Ellis Island Dollar?

I think you're probably refering to the 1986 Statue of Liberty Centennial Dollar (which has the words "Ellis Island Gateway to America" on the obverse to the left of the Statue of Liberty). The coin is worth about $13.50, whether it's the Uncirculated coin with a "P" mintmark from the Philadelphia mint or the Proof coin with the "S" mintmark from the San Francisco mint. It is 90% silver with 0.7736 troy oz ASW ("Actual Silver Weight"), meaning that the "melt value" is about $11.00 (as of December 3, 2007).
