What is a day like for a carpenter?

Carpenters work in various environments. Typically, they will have their own workshop to prepare materials. Generally, the work is completed where they are hired, such as a residence or business location.

The work may be inside or outside, many times both. The tools can create high decibel noise, can be extremely physically dangerous, and can have cords that create tripping hazards. Smaller tools and fasteners are carried in a pouch which adds additional weight to the person carrying them. Working on elevated surfaces with slopes or on uneven ground is common. Foul air in the form of airborne dust is encountered daily. Ear protection and eye protection is essential to avoid injury. Heavy material must be lifted and positioned by hand. Injury is common and the daily strain on the body takes its toll over the years. It is rewarding, however, to take pride in one's own work and be able to view and take credit for the finished product.

The best places to work would have to be big cities like LA or Dallas so there will be a lot of work for you it would most definitely be better than working in small unknown towns.
