Aluminum (Al) is a metal. It conducts electricity very well -- it is used extensively in integrated circuits as interconnects. It conducts heat very well for the same reason -- it is used to make pots and pans. It has a lighter weight than steel and its alloys can be as tough as steel (for example, aluminum ladders and airplane body parts) -- anodized aluminum is as almost as tough as diamond. It is in abundance and cheap -- soda cans are made of Al. It has a low melting point (660 degrees C) and therefore easily form into various shapes. The cons of aluminum are that it does not withstand high temperatures (low melting point) and the oxides formed inadvertently can be in inconvenient places (very difficult to remove).
