Assuming your dollar is in circulated condition and has a copper-colored edge it's made of copper-nickel not worth anything special. If it's a proof coin or is in a special package that's marked 40% silver it's worth about $4 or $5 as of 07/2009.

IT IS WORTH 1 dollar because there is nothing special about it..... To explain - circulation-issue $1 coins minted from 1971 to 1999 were made of copper-nickel just like dimes, quarters, and halves. Also it's called an Eisenhower dollar because it has a picture of President Eisenhower. The last $1 coins with Miss Liberty's portrait were minted in 1935.
