Ideally, your total cholesterol level should be less than 200 mg/dL but should absolutely not be over 240 mg/dL. However, there is both good and bad cholesterol. Bad cholesterol should not be over 100 mg/dL and good cholesterol should not fall below 60mg/dL.

The RDA (recommended daily allowance) is 300 mg. But if you have cholesterol problems, you should ask your doctor because he/she may lower that number to 250 or lower.
