'Ethiscore' is a score given to companies and products by Ethical Consumer, the UK's leading alternative consumer organisation. The score is generated through an ethical rating system covering 5 main areas:

* Environment

* People

* Animals

* Politics

* Product Sustainability

Ethical Consumer's website contains regularly updated ethiscore tables on products from baked beans to banks: www.ethicalconsumer.org/FreeBuyersGuides.aspx

Some websites or magazines look at ethical products, but Ethical Consumer is the only organisation which provides fully transparent rankings of the companies behind the brands.

Most of the information behind the ratings comes from previously published sources. These sources include publications and reports by campaign groups like Oxfam, Friends of the Earth and War on Want as well as daily newspapers, public records on pollution and health & safety prosecutions and directories on the defence and nuclear industries.

Inforamtion is also directly requested by Ethical Consumer from the companies on their environmental policies and reporting, and other policies, such as their attitude towards animal testing and to workers in their supply factories.

You can find out more about how Ethical Consumer creates ethiscores here: www.ethicalconsumer.org/OurRatingsSystem.aspx

An ethiscore is a rating system that evaluates the ethical practices of a company or product based on various criteria such as environmental impact, labor practices, and social responsibility. It helps consumers make informed decisions by providing transparency about a company's ethical standards.
