What is sub-centimeter?

Typically referring to a measurement on an imaging study (xray,
CT scan, MRI, ultrasound), "sub-centimeter" refers to a measurement
less than 1 centimeter.
For instance, a phrase such as "several sub-centimeter perihilar
nodes are noted," means there are lymph nodes which are enlarged in
the peri-hilar region of the lungs, but these are less than 1
centimeter in greatest diameter.
