Substances are anything pretty much. It is a general term to describe chemicals used in chemestry, but are usually used to describe chemical formulas, such as HCl (Hydrochloric acide), or H2O (Dihydrogen Monoxide, or "water").

Elements are the most basic forms of substances that cannot be broken down using ORDINARY chemical or physical means (so far only an atom bomb can succssesfully destroy an atom). Elements include Hydrogen(H), Oxygen(O), Fluorine(F), Sodium(Na), Gold (Au),and are included on the Periodic Table.

Mixtures are basically 2 or more elements, compounds, or substances put together. HOMOGENOUS mixtures are mixtures that are the same throughout. An example woul be when you mix table salt (NaCl, Sodium Chloride) with warm water (H2O) in equal quantities so that the salt is entirely dissolved into the water. Another Homogenous mixture is soda, such as Dr. Pepper. HETEROGENOUS mixtures are mixtures that are different. Such as putting table salt in water, but instead putting in too much salt so that the table salt not only dissolves into the water but some collects on the bottom. This is called super saturation, where there is more of the substance being dissolved that the substance dissolving it (more salt than can be dissolved in the water). Anothere heterogenous mixture is any soup with stuff in it, such as chicken noodle or miso soup.

Compounds are elementsthat have either formed together chemically or have broken down from another substance to become more stable. Essentially, two elements ut together in order to stabilize through a chemical reaction. The only elements that do not react are the Noble Gasses (farthest right group(column) on the periodic table).
