Probably Memphis. For the type being that it is along the large Mississippi River, which flows south into the Gulf of Mexico, and the fact that Memphis is a big city with history of steamboats cotton, and a live center, Memphis would most likely be it.However, the other notable cities in Tennesse\, like Clarksville, Nashville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville are also passed by rivers connected with other rivers that lead into the Great Lakes to the North or the Gulf of Mexico to the South. For example, to get from Nashville to the Gulf of Mexico, you could go down the Cumberland river, then down the Ohio River, then at the big fork intersection, go down south the Mississipi River. Another example, from Chattanooga, which is along the Tennessee River in Southern Tennesse, the best way to acessess to the Gulf of Mexico by water is to go down the Tennesse River for a little while, then in Northern Alabama, go left at a major river intersection to go down the man-made Tenn-Tom waterway. The waterway goes down Alabama and flows out at Mobile, AL and the off to the Gulf. Ocean going vessels and boats can use these waterways to get to/from the places in Tennessee, like the ones I mentioned, as long as their size and draft permits such accessibility to these waterways.
