A thicker line that has numbers written on it showing the rising or decreasing elevation on a topographic map
By Ash
Every fifth contour line on a topographic map, usually thicker, used to label elevation.
An index contour line is shown after every five contour lines. Index lines show the current elevation every time it is shown. Index lines are usually bolded and have the elevation as a numerical number.
An index contour is a contour line which is bold that is also used as a reference
labeled in elevation in round units such as l,600 to 2,000 meters above sea level
A contour line accentuated by a heavier line weight to distinguish it from intermediate contour lines
an index conture line show elevation of nearby contour lines
It makes it easier to count the number of contour lines.
Each index contour has an elevation associated with it. When you look at 2 contours, one will have a higher corresponding elevation. As you go from the lower elevation to the higher elevation, you know that the land is increasing in the direction toward the higher elevation. From the higher to the lower elevation, the land is decreasing (sloping downward, decreasing in elevation).
A contour lines connects points of equal elevation.
Contour plowing is the farming practice of plowing across a slope following its elevation contour lines. On sloped land, contour plowing is done such that rows are side by side but each row follows a path such that every point on it is at the same elevation. So, for example, to plow a round hillock you would plow concentric circles around the hill top to bottom. The resultant furrow lines look just like the contour lines on a contour map. With this plowing method the rows hold water instead of draining it downward and becoming eroded.
b
it is a contour line of elevation Control index contour, or just index contour
What are the difference's between contour interval and index contour?
index contour lines have numbers contour lines dont
An Index Contour
an index contour.
index contour
the contour interval is the difference in elevation between contour lines that are next to each other
It makes it easier to count the number of contour lines.
The numbers of contour lines indicate altitude or elevation along that line.
The darker contour lines on map are called index contour lines. Numbers that indicate elevations are often written on these lines.
Index contours can be identified by every 5th contour line and also because its darker and heavier
I think it's an index contour, but I'm not sure.
