Sternocleidomastoid and the Scalenes are Synergists, which mean that they work together to provide the same movements (flexion, rotation and lateral flexion of the head and neck)
An Antagonist is a muscle that does the opposite movements. In this case, Antagonists of the Scalenes would be your posterior neck muscles, such as:
Upper Trapezius
Splenius Capitus
Splenius Cervicis
Semispinalis Capitis, etc

Wouldn't the primary antagonists to scalenes be the opposite side of neck scalenes?
