In some cases, two 1gb cards will run faster as they sort of run in parallel.

However the difference is not dramatic, so it doesn't really matter either way.

2 512 is better. 1 Gigabyte (GB) is equal to 1 000 000 000 Bytes (B), or 1 000 Megabytes (MB). Therefore 2 512 MB equals 2.5 GB. you get two and a half times the memory.

You have 1 gig of addresssable memory space in 2 expansion slots Is it better to have 512 mb in each slot or a 1 gig and an empty slot?

It's better to have two sticks of memory but some times it doesn't matter. This all depends on the clock speed of the memory and the speed that the computer is accessing the memory This means two sticks at 800mhz will be faster than one stick at 1200mhz.

Is 512 SDR RAM or 256 DDR RAM better?

512 SDR. DDR2 is better, but more the memory better it is for your PC, irrespective of the memory technology. You have a point there but considering the current trends, i will prefer the DDR because sdram is being replaced with ddr. Especially if you planning to buy a new mother board, most MoBo's nowadays are of ddr. But speed and capability is better than having plenty of ram. It is with the speed of access not only the space. Besides, it's better to consider efficiency, right?

Will my system run faster with if you install one stick of 512 Memory or two pair of 256MB memory?

In theory it will run faster with the 512Mb stick, as the computer only needs to send and receive date from one source, as opposed to two, which takes more system resources (regardless of the memory size of the two sticks).

Can you still play games on your psp without a memory card?

Will your system run faster if you install two 256 mb dimms or one 512 mb dimms on a dual channeling motherboard?

In order to take advantage of the Dual Channel option on your motherboard, you will need a matched pair of memory. If you only install one stick of 512 MB memory, you will have to turn off the Dual Channel capabilities on your motherboard. If you install a matched pair of 256 MB memory, you can keep Dual Channel enabled. I would recommend buying at least 2x512 MB if not 2x1 GB of memory. Prices for 2x256 MB may be very expensive compared to 2x1 GB.

How much RAM do you need for ordinary applications?

You will need atleast 512MB of RAM for common application, but the general average now is 1GB. The minimum memory requirement for vista is 512 MB, so it's always better to have more than that.
