Brown is most well known for not having general courses required for graduation. Students must complete only the required courses for their major and attempt 32 courses, passing 30. The academic freedom that comes from this is heavily stressed. Brown also allows students to take any class satisfactory/no credit and doesn't give pluses and minuses on transcripts (A, B, C, no Credit).
Besides on paper, Brown is known for students with a diverse range of interests as well as quirky personalities. Brown is known as a very liberal school where students are open to nearly all ideas. The atmosphere at Brown is unique because the students are all incredibly intelligent, but generally humble, relaxed and again, tolerant of ideas.
