Ipinnganak si Emilio Aguinaldo noong Marso 22, 1869 sa bayan ng Kawit, Cavite sa Luzon[1] sa panahong kolonya ng Espanya ang Pilipinas, ang ikapitong anak ng alkalde ng bayan. Sa edad na 15, sa tulong ng isang paring Jesuit, nagpatala siya sa Pamantasan ng Santo Tomas sa Maynila, kung saan siya nag-aral ng medisina.
Noong 1895 sumapi si Aguinaldo sa Katipunan, isang lihim na samahan na pinamumunuan noon ni Andres Bonifacio,ipinahayag ni Aguinaldo ang digmaan laban sa Estados Unidos noong Pebrero 4, 1899.Pinamunuan ni Aguinaldo ang pagtutol sa pananakop ng mga Amerikano hanggang siya ay mahuli noong 1901 ni US General Frederick Funston. Tinanggap niya ang alok na ililigtas ang kanyang buhay kung ipapangako niya ang kanyang katapatan sa Estados Unidos. at nalinis din ang kanyang pangalan. Namuhay siyang nakita ang kanyang panghabang-buhay na hangarin, ang kalayaan ng kanyang bansa na natamo noong 1946, at noong 1950 nagsilbi siya ng isang termino sa Council of State bago siya muling namahinga. Namatay siya sa atake sa puso sa Veterans Memorial Hospital sa Lungsod ng Quezon noong Pebrero 6, 1964 sa edad na 94.
