Mutation is the important " starter " of the adaptive change engendered by natural selection. Variation is key to selection and without variation in organisms there would be nothing to select from for the survival and reproductive success of the organism against the immediate environment.
overproduction, competition, variation, selection
Think about giraffes, they used to have short necks but out of the freak of nature some had long necks, so the rest died (because they couldn't get the high leaves) and now all giraffes have long necks. Its basicially just like a mutation of an animal
The most important factor affecting natural selection is variation in organisms. Without the subtle, or not so subtle differences in organisms differential survival and reproductive success against the backdrop of the immediate environment would not take place; something need to be selected out from something else.

Natural selection is one of the 'guiding' principles of evolution.
The direction is determined by whatever factor allows one variant to outbreed others. I'm not quite sure what is meant by 'extent'.
didn't you just do that? or did you mean something else? ... Or........... Over time, the change in a species is called evolution. and. Natural selection helps certain animals in a species survive.
Your brain is one of the most important human features evolved by natural selection. ( perhaps sexual selection also had something to do with it )
Variation in the organisms under selection. In both artificial selection and natural selection there must be heritable variations that have the possibility of being in the case of artificial selection what the selector wants in the organism and in thje case of natural selection survivability and reproductive advantages.
Randomness.

Natural selection is one force that can lead to evolution.natural selection is one cause of evolution
Natural selection is one of the 'guiding' principles of evolution.
In one way or another, all of them. However, we generally don't speak of natural selection in terms of how it affects cells (except perhaps germline cells), but in terms of how it affects populations, lineages or allele frequencies in gene pools. In population genetics, cells are merely the containers for collections of genes, and the machines that express those genes.
They are the selective agent in natural selection ;)
Natural selection is one of the mechanisms that shapes adaptation and enables evolution.
Natural selection helps to increase biodiversity and the number of new species.
