Was it a good thing that the south seceded from the union?

Whether or not it was a good thing that the south seceded from the union remains to be acknowledged by the government. The southern confederates believed obviously and somewhat recklessly that it was a good thing, while the union did not. This is basically why the civil war was fought. I suppose, looking at it from the southerner's side, it was good, and I can see a point behind it. They fought for their money, for what they earned. The very root of their survival-- the slaves. The slaves that toiled, the slaves that brought in their hands the very gold and money they use to carry on their lives. So, I trust you see their point of view. The union is correct as well. It is not good for humanity to treat other humans with feelings and senses and families just like themselves to be torn apart and used as rags and beaten as dogs and put to work as merely that-- slaves. This is why they fought. It is not nearly corteous to treat others as mere animals, is it? Now you must decide the answer to your own question. Was it a good thing tha the South seceded from the Union?
