I wanted to know what damping was not answer it!!!
The amplitude of resonant oscillations can be reduced by damping.Light damping reduces oscillations slowly.Heavy damping reduces oscillations quickly.Critical damping stops the oscillation within one cycle. The graph above shows light damping.
Because a larger angle will exacerbate the dampening effect. The dampening effect is an effect that tends to reduce the amplitude of any oscillations. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damping
the further the frequency from the resonant one, greater would be the damping effect, hence greater the sharpness the lowre is the damping effect
Compound pendulum is a physical pendulum whereas a simple pendulum is ideal pendulum. The difference is that in simple pendulum centre of mass and centre of oscillation are at the same distance.
The damping coefficient ς is a parameter which determines the behavior of the damped system

The damping coefficient applies both to hydraulic circuits and springs. Hydraulics In general, higher the coefficient or viscosity higher is the tendency to ensure steady flow and hence a higher system efficiency. This is governed by the properties of hydraulic oil selected for use. Springs Higher the coefficient, greater is the tendency for a spring to reach a desired equilibrium position. This is governed by the properties of spring material selected for the applciation.

It is the opposite of normal damping (oscillation decreases), so in negative damping to get even bigger oscillation.

An Ellicott pendulum is a temperature compensated clock pendulum. The metal rod of a pendulum changes its length with temperature. The consequence is, that a colder pendulum swings faster (the rod is shorter) and a warm pendulum swings slower (longer rod). The Ellicott pendulum compensates this temperature error of the pendulum. It consists of a steele rod and two brass rods, wich are connectet in one point above the pendulum bob. Brass has a higher temperature coefficient than steele. On the free end of the three rods, a special lever mechanism, controlled by the lenght difference of the rods, lifts the pendulum bob up, when the length of the rods grows. The bob stays at its position and the period of the pendulum is without temperature influence. See also http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ellicott_pendulum.png
critical damping is when the amount of damping is large enough for the system to return toequilibrium as fast as possible without performing oscillations. Hope thatHELPED
Geometric damping is also called radiation damping. It is defined as energy radiation into a surrounding medium. Damping is defined as energy dissipation property of structures and materials that are put through time-variable loading.
In the damping level the level view and vertical spindle are crossed together...
