A 'family' room can vary, but most likely includes a third bed. This does not always mean the room will have two double beds, plus a third bed. It may include a sofa that folds out into a bed, or even a trundle bed.
These terms are american originating terms. They can be dramatically interpreted in different ways in other countries and it's always best to verify specifically what it is you're looking for. In the United Kingdom, for example, there are very very few hotels that have rooms with two double beds.
In countries with far more space, such as the USA and Australia, the ability to add more beds becomes axiomatic.
