When you're working on music and you want to add some nice room ambiance to a vocal track that you recorded dry, you add reverb. But when you're in a large room and you hear your own voice distinctly coming back to you, you call it echo,

Reverb and echo are two different things. Here are the technical definitions of each:

Reverb is characterized as random, blended repetitions of a sound occurring within thirty milliseconds after the sound is made. This is all the sound that immediately bounces off any nearby surfaces before it gets back to your ears. So first you'll hear the original sound and then all the stuff bouncing off the walls, furniture, trees, people, giraffes and even acoustic tiling. Your brain is specially equipped to notice reverberations before your conscious perception does. It blends the reverb with the original sound before you even notice it and then tells you that it all came from the same location, just so you don't get confused. Weird, huh? With enough practice though, you can turn off this feature and notice the reverb that occurs in every space. Snap your fingers, or as I do, make a sharp clicking sound with your mouth, and try to listen to the room around you instead of yourself. You'll start to hear it. Try it in different rooms. It'll sound different each time.

Echo is defined by distinct repetitions of a sound occurring after 30 milliseconds. This is when you can unquestionably hear a distinct... well, echo of a sound coming back to you. When you are at a big canyon or inside a gigantic room and you, of course, say "Hello!" and then a moment later you hear it again, that's echo. For some reason, in the world of music production, it's called 'delay'. The term 'echo' is, to my knowledge, never used. What's wrong with 'echo'? I have no idea.

To put it this way:

- reverberation for example makes the music instrument sound like it is played in closed room/stadium/hall/garage

- you hear echo when you go to Grand Canyon or very large room and you yell "hello" and then you hear hello hello hello ello ello llo llo oo oo o o o. :)

What is the difference between reverberation and echo in sound waves?

Reverberation is the persistence of sound in an enclosed space due to multiple reflections, while an echo is a distinct repetition of sound caused by reflection off a surface.

What is the difference between reverberation and echo?

Reverberation is the persistence of sound in an enclosed space due to multiple reflections off surfaces. Echo is the distinct repetition of a sound caused by reflection of sound waves off distant surfaces, resulting in a delayed and distinct sound repetition. Think of reverberation as a continuous overlapping of sound reflections, while echo is a distinct, separate repetition of the sound.

What is sound reverberation?

An echo.

What is the difference between an echo and a reverberation?

An echo is a distinct repetition of sound that is heard after a delay, usually caused by sound waves bouncing off a surface. Reverberation, on the other hand, is the persistence of sound in an enclosed space after the original sound source has stopped, caused by multiple reflections of sound waves within the space.

A reflection of sound waves?

An echo or reverberation.

What type of sound is an echo?

It is a sound reverberation.

What is the difference between echo and reverberation in terms of sound propagation and reflection?

Echo is a distinct repetition of sound caused by a reflection off a surface, resulting in a delayed and clearly audible repetition of the original sound. Reverberation, on the other hand, is the persistence of sound in an enclosed space due to multiple reflections off surfaces, creating a continuous and blended sound effect.

What reflected sound is called?

reflected sound is either reverberation or echo

What is a synonym for echo?

Repeat, copy, reverberation, parroting, rebound, answer...

What is produced when a sound is reflected?

Sometimes it makes an echo or reverberation.

A repeated echo in a small dimension space or room is called?

Reverberation. Reflection of sound waves off of surfaces can lead to one of two phenomena - an echo or a reverberation. A reverberation often occurs in a small room with height, width, and length dimensions of approximately 17 meters or fewer.

What is natural echo of a room called?

The natural echo of a room is called reverberation. It refers to the persistence of sound in a space after the original sound source has stopped, caused by multiple reflections of sound waves off surfaces within the room.
