The difference between diffusion and osmosis is that diffusion is the passive movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration down the concentration gradient. Particles will continue to move until dynamic equilibrium is reached, which is a state where the particles are evenly spread.

Osmosis is the movement of water from a hypotonic solution (solution with less concentration) to a hypertonic solution (solution with a greater concentration of solute). Water will move to even the concentration of the two solutions to establish a state where both solutions are isotonic. ( two solutions have the same concentration).

Give 3 examples of osmosis in living organisms?

Plants absorb water from the soil through osmosis, allowing nutrients to be transported throughout the plant. Red blood cells maintain their shape and structure by regulating water movement through osmosis. Marine fish constantly face the challenge of adapting to different salinity levels in the water they inhabit, using osmosis to regulate the water and salt concentrations in their bodies.

What is an example of diffussion in everyday life?

diffussion is an uptaking of substances bycells through their cell membranes

What is differences between osmosis and diffussion?

Osmosis is the movement of water across a selectively permeable membrane from an area of low solute concentration to an area of high solute concentration. Diffusion is the movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. While both processes involve the movement of molecules, osmosis specifically refers to the movement of water molecules.

What happens during diffussion?

They collide with one another and tend to spread out randomly.

How is osmosis related to diffussion?

Diffusion -Movement of molecules(not water) from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentrationOsmosis -Movement of water molecules from a region of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration through a semi permeable membrane.Similarities- both move from higher to lower concentration and both are examples of passive transport

What process is the diffusion of water through a selectively permeable membrane?

The process of water passing through a selectively permeable membrane is called osmosis. Water will move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration in order to equalize the solute concentrations on both sides of the membrane.
