Ethanol is ethyl alcohol also known as grain alcohol. It is a psychoactive drug usually found in Alcoholic Beverages.

It is made by "fermenting" the sugars present in starchy crops (such as corn, potatoes, bananas etc), sugar producing crops (such as fruit (grapes etc), sugar beat or sugarcane), or cellulosic plants (like trees or wild grasses).

The process of "fermentation" is done in a solution of the sugars by a fungus called "yeast" which, when there is no oxygen present, turns the sugars into ethanol and carbon dioxide.

Pure ethanol then has to be separated out of solution by a process called distillation.

Does ethanol react with copper?

Yes, ethanol can react with copper. Ethanol can form complexes with copper, such as copper(II) ethoxide, when they come into contact. This reaction can be influenced by factors such as temperature, concentration, and presence of other chemicals.

What happens when you put frozen ethanol into liquid ethanol?

When you put frozen ethanol into liquid ethanol, the frozen ethanol will begin to melt and mix with the liquid ethanol. Both states of ethanol will reach an equilibrium temperature, and the frozen ethanol will ultimately dissolve into the liquid ethanol to form a homogeneous solution.

Is distilled ethanol similar to pure ethanol?

Yes, distilled ethanol is similar to pure ethanol. Distilled ethanol is produced using distillation to purify the ethanol, resulting in a high level of purity. Pure ethanol refers to ethanol that is free from impurities, and distilled ethanol typically meets this criteria.

Does ethanol contain water?

Yes, ethanol can contain water as it is a common impurity in ethanol. Ethanol is a type of alcohol that can be mixed with water.

How do you separate ethanol from aqueous ethanol?

Ethanol can be separated from aqueous ethanol through a process called distillation. In distillation, the mixture is heated to evaporate the ethanol, which is then condensed back into liquid form. The condensed ethanol can then be collected as a separate product.
