The Netherlands is a counrty of many cultures at the moment so it is hard to say what the staple foods are. Potatoes are used a lot in Dutch cooking and many vegetables but apart from that there aren't any specific ingredients that Dutch people use lots and lots. Asian and other types of foods are becoming increasingly popular in Holland so that adds more ingredients into the Dutch market each day.
The Dutch prefer to eat sweets and bread for breakfast. A real dutch breakfast would be Dutch chocolate hail with butter on brown bread. Or fruitjuice hail (They are like powdery sweets) also with butter on brown bread. Instead of bread you can also take a beschuitje which is a typical round Dutch biscuit. If you prefer to eat something salty you can eat really dark brown bread with old Dutch cheese and perhaps a bit of mustard. Of course drink milk during breakfast.
There is a lot of difference, but most of us eat bread in the morning (as we do at lunch).
Most dutchmen just eat leavened bread and drink milk, thea or coffee. Sometimes dutchmen eat also an egg and/or Orange Juice.
