Work release is often catered to the schedule of the inmate's job.
I do not believe that formal "Work Release programs" are administered by prisons (felons). Work release programs are administered by jails for lower level offense inmates (misdemeanants).

Your sentence is not reduced because of work release - it just means that they release you at a certain time of the morning and must return and check-in by a certain time of the night. On your days off from work, you spend your entire day in jail. The length of the sentence remains the same whether you go to work or you don't.
You may need to break into the hood to get it to work. Taking the vehicle in to a mechanic can be helpful in getting the release to work again.
