There are not any foods that actually lower uric acid, but there are foods you can avoid that increase uric acid levels. These foods include most meats, as well as alcohol and bread with lots of yeast.

Gout is a form of Arthritis that is caused by high levels of uric acid in the body. The excess uric acid crystallizes and settles in the joints, which causes swelling and severe pain. It can occur in any joint although the big toe is the most common site. Uric acid is produced when the body breaks down substances called purines which are found naturally in the body and in many foods. While diet alone does not cause gout, eating certain foods can raise the risk of developing this condition. In contrast, there are foods that can help to relieve the symptoms of gout.
