If you are allergic to something, I would get away from the object causing the reaction, also if you are near anything that could be causing your eye to be irritated. Diphenhyramine, a medicine in Tylenol PM and other drugs, is an antihistamine that can reduce swelling and itching.

The easiest thing is ice! A sandwich bag of ice for a few minutes (don't go crazy!) will reduce the itching for a couple of hours by decreasing the swelling caused by the histamine release.

In addition, consider using artificial tears to rinse out the allergens in your eyes. This, along with ice work well. You do NOT want something that will get the red out of your eye in this case. When that wears off, the rebound redness will be many times be worse than before.

There are several over the counter products for ocular allergy relief. I usually recommend Zaditor or Alaway drops 2 times per day. They are the same drug, which used to be by prescription only.

If those ideas are still not enough, see your optometrist for further evaluation and treatment.

First and foremost, do not rub the infected eye. It would worsen the symptoms. Instead, use cool compresses and eye drops. Oral antihistamines such as Claritin and Zyrtec should help as well.

How do you cure itchy eyes without medicine?

It's recommended that if you have an unknown cause for itchy eyes, you should see an eye doctor immediately and be prescribed the appropriate medication. However if you choose not to, avoid wearing contact lens, sleep when possible (this reduces the urge to rub and gives the eyes time to heal), and if you can, rinse with eye drops or a saline solution to keep the eyes clean.
