Heliotrope is a genus of plants in the Family Boraginaceae the name is derived from Helios the sun and trope turning from the belief that the flowers followed the sun round.

Ther are 2 species commonly grown. Heliotropium corymbosum and H.peruvianum as the name of the second suggests they are native to Peru. Both are the parents of the garden heliotrope known commonly as Cherry Pie. Some plants are highly scented.
