Helium is put into balloons to help float

Helium is easily detected in minute quantites, and has a very small "molecule". So helium is also used for checking vacum and other enclosures for leaks.

Helium is used in some noble gas ("neon") signs, possibly mixed with other gases.

Liquid helium is used as a coolant, like for MRI magnets and such.

Liquid helium acts as a study in physics for "superfluids" (see link below).
To make balloons float and to make your voice high.

Helium is used in air tanks so you can breathe and it is also used in balloons, but if you breathe it in it shortens your oxygen.
its used for balloons and deep sea diving. helium is a light gas.
making balloons fly
Helium is a noble gas and has the following uses

1) Nucleus of helium (alpha) are used as bombarding particles in artificial radioactivity

2)Helium is light , non-inflammable it is used in filling of balloons for weather study . Unlike nitrogen helium is not soluble in blood even under high pressure so a mixture of 80% helium and 20% oxygen is used instead of ordinary air by diverse for respiration

3) It is used in producing inert atmosphere

4) It is filled in tubes of aeroplane tyres

Element uses INDUSTRIAL

  • creation of an inert gas shield for arc welding
  • high speed 'push gas' inside air-to-air missiles for guidance corrections
  • protective gas in growing silicon and germanium crystals, and in titanium and zirconium production
  • cooling medium for nuclear reactors; helium won't become radioactive
  • artificial atmospheres for divers and others working under pressure (mixtures of about 80 percent helium and 20 percent oxygen)
  • cryogenics and superconductivity
  • use in supersonic wind tunnels
  • pressurizing agent for liquid fuel rockets (inert so it won't react)
  • leak detection agent for extremely small leaks
  • isotopic dating by helium ratios (seawater, ocean beds, etc.)
  • helium cardiopulmonary resuscitation pump (heart surgery)
  • helium filled border patrol "AEROSTAT" monitoring blimps
  • filling balloons (blimps) as it is a much safer gas than hydrogen
  • widely used as an inert gas shield for arc welding in countries where helium is cheaper than argon
  • protective gas in growing silicon and germanium crystals, and in titanium and zirconium production
  • cooling medium for nuclear reactors
  • a mixture of 80% helium and 20% oxygen is used as an artificial atmosphere for divers and others working under pressure
  • cryogenic applications
  • as a gas for supersonic wind tunnels
  • a protective gas for semiconductor materials
  • pressurizing liquid fuel rockets

· Helium has many different uses. One use of helium that peoples don't often think of or know is that helium is actually used in neon signs. Neon signs are not really neon all of the time. Neon is a specific color and Nobel gasses

  • Helium helps NASA's shuttle get into space.
  • Helium is important to anyone who needs an MRI scan to help diagnose their illness or injury. MRIs use superconducting magnets to generate an intense, steady magnetic field by cooling the wire to extremely low temperatures.
  • Various industries use helium to detect gas leaks in their products.
  • Manufacturers of aerosol products, tires, refrigerators, fire extinguishers, air conditioners and other devices inject helium into the parts of their products that contain gas and put the part into a vacuum. Then they can measure whether or not any helium has leaked into the vacuum.

The first laser invented, a helium-neon laser, is today used in laser eye surgery and laser pointers.
