There really is no OTC equivalent to Desonide Lotion. There are topical corticosteroids that are OTC that reduce redness and itching such as CortiCool and Hydrocortisone.

In the U.S you can get 1% hydrocortisone cream or ointment in a tube at any pharmacy or variety store with a pharmacy department such as Target or Walmart. For higher strength such as 2% hydrocortisone, you will need a doctor prescription.

You can use hydrocortisone cream on a cat but they will end up licking it off and that's not good. There is a hydrocortisone spray that is specifically made for animals that is much safer to use.

Ideally, it is best to use as little steroid-based product on your face as possible, preferably none. If temporary use of a steroid ointment or cream is needed, it would be safer to use 0.5-1.0% hydrocortisone (as betamethasone is much stronger). Check with your physician in your particular case.
