When heating, air conditioning or ventilation is a problem, it is necessary to find qualified heating engineers. Not just anyone should be allowed to work on sensitive electronic equipment and heating and cooling systems that could produce potentially toxic fumes. The HVAC (heating, ventilation & air conditioning) industry self polices itself by offering licensing and certification programs for heating engineers. There are membership societies to further advance training and skills of HVAC professionals in the United States. One, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), is also an international technical society. Members exchange knowledge and do research in the industry. This is also used in the UK as a standard for their heating engineer industry.Heating Engineers also must do work that meets the standards of the Uniform Mechanical Code. This is a safety issue, and professional stay current on all rules. Heating Engineers are certified specialists and should be able to show proof of that achievement before being hired. NATE certified HVAC professionals are top of the line service persons in this industry. In the United Kingdom, look for membership in the HVCA, Heating and Ventilation Contractors Association. In the U.S., look for a NATE certified technician to do your important HVAC work. The qualifications of service personnel will be publicized at any reputable service firm that does HVAC work. Ask what qualifications their technicians have, and only allow the best to work on your heating and cooling systems. This is important not only for proper working of expensive heating and cooling equipment, but to protect human lives. If a ventilation system is blocked or not correctly installed, toxic fumes may reenter the building or become trapped inside a building, causing death.Find heating engineers by looking at the local yellow pages phone directory ads. Look for logos like NATE and well known brand name equipment like Trane and Lennox. Then call up the business office and ask about the qualifications of their technicians. Keep calling until you locate one that is professionally certified; they are the best and have constant training update classes for HVAC equipment and procedures.
