There are two main forms continuous and stanza. Continuous involves no breaks in the lines and can be further defined by the scansion, meter, and rhyme scheme. Stanza involves numerous stanzas of varying length that can also be further defined by scansion, meter, and rhyme scheme though there are many set types of stanza poetry such as limericks and sonnets and variations thereof that are already well defined based on tradition.

When talking about literature (and poetry) imagery refers to the use of the five senses: taste, touch, smell, sight, sound.

For example, from the poem "My Papa's Waltz," the first and second lines read:

"The whiskey on your breath / could make a small boy dizzy"

Whiskey appeals to the use of smell and possibly taste. These are both images in the first line. When talking about literature (and poetry) imagery refers to the use of the five senses: taste, touch, smell, sight, sound.
