Water that soaks/sinks into the ground continues to seep down until it seeps to a depth of about 100 metres. Then, it soaks further down and:

Hits the water table- the level beneath which porous rocks are saturated water.

Becomes a part of the aquifer- an area of porous rock with a water system flowing through it, (kind of like a river or stream of groundwater)

Infiltration is when water soaks into the ground. Once the water is absorbed it goes underground and moves between rocks and soil.

The best answer is permeate (to diffuse through or penetrate into).

Example: Some of the water permeated the clay soil while the rest was captured in the run off pool.

When water soaks into the ground, some of it is absorbed by plant roots, some of it makes the soil muddy, some of it may sink as far as the porous rocks of an aquifer.
