Umbra
It is actually impossible to reflect a shadow, as a shadow is merely an absence of light. However, what IS reflected is the light surrounding the shadow. When this light is reflected, it forms a reflected image of the light's shape, complete with a lack of light, or shadow. In this way, it can look like a shadow is reflected.
Complete shade hides the shadow and makes it non visible. Partial shade allows the shadow to be visible.
The penumbra.
The darkest part of a shadows is called the "umbra", which is actually Latin for "shadow". This is where the light source is completely blocked by the occluding body. The person viewing the umbra experiences a total eclipse.
You can measure its length, or its volume, or its surface area, or its projected area (in effect the area of its shadow).
umbra
The darkest part of a shadow is called the "umbra" The lighter part of a shadow is called the "penumbra" An "antumbra" is the area of light which surrounds the object creating a shadow, as in a "ring of fire" eclipse (like the recent one in May, 2012). It can best be seen when the viewer is beyond the focal point of the umbra, but in line with it.
The darkest portion of the Moon's shadow during an eclipse is called the umbra.
There are two parts of a shadow: the UMBRA and the PENUMBRA. UMBRA is the inner darker part of a shadow. PENUBMRA is the outher lighter layer of a shadow. During a solar eclipse, the area on the planet that witnesses a complete total solar eclipse would be under the moon's shadow's UMBRA. The area that views a partial solar eclipse would be under the PENUMBRAL shadow.
There is no official name. The wet area is upwind. The dry area on the lee side is called the rain shadow. This effect is called the rain shadow effect.
when Earth due to an earthquake, there is a large area on the other side where the waves cant be detected.they called this area the S-Shadow.
shadow
The umbra is the darkest part of the shadow, the "complete shadow" area. We typically use the word "umbra" in reference to lunar eclipses, not solar eclipses.
I believe that is called 'shadow' or 'shade'.
what is a rain shadow area?
The "umbra" is the dark area of complete shadow. Around it is the "penumbra", which is partial shadow.
A rain-shadow.
