Depending on where you live, your 8th grade year might be the first year of highschool. For me it isn't, so I'll tell you what I felt like starting 8th grade... last week. =)

It's pretty exhilarating - a new grade, and you're at the top of the school (sixth and seventh graders below you). You've got new classes, new teachers, and new students, just like any other year. It's really not that big of a change, except of course all the new things around you. And once you settle into your schedule, it will be just like the year before, but you're now the big 8th grader that knows what they're doing. I found that, when I started 8th grade, it gave me a big confidence boost, because I knew that I was the person walking down the sixth grade hallway that all the sixth graders would see and make way for. It's also nice because you know how your school system works, so there's no freaking out about switching from having like one or two teachers to having 8.

Hope I helped! =D

Its different but you going to like it one more step to highschool its the same as your regular grades so dont be scared I'm scared about it though. I mean its like this whole new year and another big step to high school!!

This can be a little tricky, and it varies depending on the child's birthday, the cutoff date for beginning school in whatever state they live in, when the school year starts, and whether or not the child was ever held back.

Generally, children start kindergarten at age 5, so they should be 13 when they begin 8th grade. In most states, they require kids to be 5 by September 1st to start kindergarten (meaning that in 8th grade, a child would have to be 13 by then). School usually starts in late August, in which case the very youngest students won't quite be 13 yet, but again, they would be by Sept. 1st. In some places school doesn't start until early September, so in that case, the youngest will have just turned 13 and the oldest will already be turning 14 right as school begins.

But, the cutoff dates can vary a bit. Even though it's Sept. 1st in most states, it can be as early as August and as late as December. If the cutoff is in August, this ensures that NO 4 year olds can enter kindergarten and that also means no 12 year olds in 8th grade. So all students will be at least 13 and the oldest will have already been 14 for a couple weeks or even a month when school starts. But if the cutoff is not until December, then children can potentially be 12 for nearly half of their 8th grade year.

But, all kids whose birthdays fall after the cutoff date but before the end of the year (usually late May or early June) will turn 14 sometime during their 8th grade year. And if they have a birthday in the summer after school has ended, then they will just be 13 for all of 8th grade and then turn 14 the following summer.

Finally, a kid could be as old as 15 in 8th grade. This could happen if they ever struggled and had to repeat a year of school. They would start the year at 14 and turn 15, rather than starting at 13 and turning 14. Or if their birthday isn't until the summer, then they'll already be 14 when they start 8th grade but won't actually turn 15 until after they've finished the year.

It all depends how hard you worked the last years and how hard you're willing to work this year. Just listen to your teachers and make friends and try not to get into too much trouble. Otherwise it's pretty easy because you're focusing on getting prepared for high school which is easy too just work hard and don't overwhelm yourself with not knowing what you're gonna do in hih school or college yet high school will prepare you for college when the time comes and 8th grade with ease you into high school. So just have fun and live evey day like it's your last because it kind of is. It's your last days of middle school! Good luck and have fun!

In 8th grade you should be about 11-14 years old. It varies within different countries because of their age rates there, but this is the standard for the United States and Canada.
