Portugal has been a member of the EEC for some years, now. As a member, it must conform-for the greater part- to European Human Rights protocols. These protocols have contributed greatly to the safety and welfare of the children of Portugal. Fortunately, the traditional Catholic aspect of raising children, which prevailed prior to Portugal joining the EEC, is being slowly displaced. Access to education has significantly improved and, overall, child welfare has improved. Children, now, are influenced greatly by standards found throughout the European community. Whether or not this has contributed to their contentment is questionable.
