In Aladdin and the Forty Thieves, we meet Aladdin's long-lost father, Kaseem, the current King of Thieves.
Aladdin is a 'street rat' in Arabia, which means he has to steal food in order to survive. The princess Jasmine runs away because her father is forcing her to marry. They meet in the streets and start to fall in love, but Aladdin is imprisoned for "kidnapping the princess". A powerful wizard Jaffar was really behind Aladdin's arrest. He needs Aladdin to get a magic lamp out of The Cave of Wonders. Aladdin gets trapped in The Cave of Wonders with his monkey Aubo, a magic carpet and the magic lamp. Aladdin rubs the lamp and the Genie tells Aladdin he has 3 wishes. Everyone gets out of the cave safely. Aladdin can't stop thinking about the Princess Jasmine, so he uses one of his wishes to become a prince (since only princesses can marry princes). Jaffar is sneaky and since he is the adviser to the Sultan, Jasmine's father, Jaffar makes up a law that in the case a suitor can't be found the adviser marries the princess. But thank goodness Aladdin shows up at Jasmines palace in his disguise and asks for her hand in marriage. Jasmine and "Prince Abubua" (as Aladdin is called) go on a magic carpet ride. Jasmine figure out that its Aladdin. Aladdin lies and says he has always been a prince. Things seem to be going well until Jaffar steals the lamp and wishes to be the most powerful wizard in all the world. This of course doesn't go over well. Jaffar is taking control of everything, and he and Aladdin have a huge battle. Jaffar realizes that the Genie will still always have more power than him, so Jaffar wishes to be a genie too. This leads to Jaffar's down fall because what he doesn't realize is that he is forced to a life of servitude to whoever rubs his lamp. They Ship Jaffar (and his lamp) far away. Aladdin uses a wish to set Genie, now a good friend of his, free. and ends up being engaged to Jasmine. What a happy ending :]
Aladdin's father is named Cassim. In the original story from "One Thousand and One Nights," Cassim is a wealthy merchant who becomes estranged from Aladdin, leading to various adventures.
