Jons Jacob Berzelius provided evidence that bolstered the atomic theory that was being proposed at the time by John Dalton, that is that inorganic chemical compounds were composed of atoms combined in whole number amounts in accordance with a law of definite proportions. He also is credited with disproving a hypothesis that all elements are built up from hydrogen atoms.
