The float in your gas tank is sticking when it gets to half a tank of gas. This will make the gas gage stay at half and not register below that but it is possible for the float to rise.
It can feel warmer than a half filled tank (especially when it has just been filled) because of all of the molecular activity in the tank and some of this is transferred in to heat energy.. If the tank is left for some time it will drop in temperature to the point where it is similar to the half filled tank. The reason it is warm when it has just been filled is simply down to the hear from the compressor and the friction caused by the air molecules as they enter the tank.
Just above the tank on the inboard side.
It is just above on the inboard side of the fuel tank. You will have to lower the tank slightly to change.
