In music there is many volumes, or dynamics. The Italian word forte means "loud" in music, It is expressed by the letter f. Two of them is ff, written out as "fortissimo, and the last one commonly seen is three: fff, written out as "fortissimosso", which literally means "as loud as possible". Some composers, more to convey a desire to the performer or conductor than an actually attainable sound level, would write as many as six or seven in a row (ffffff), Tschaikovsky being particularly prone to that. In other words, "fff", meaning "as loud as possible", is the most number of "effs" ever needed, as it is not possible to play louder than "as loud as possible".
