You would like to know the type of treatment and living conditions your father had while he was in a Russian pow camp when he was captured outside of Konigsberg East Prussia 1945 He never spoke of it?

HE WAS SENT BACK TO THE SOVIET UNION AND STAYED THERE FOR SEVERAL YEARS BEING FORCED TO HELP REBUILD THE DEVASTATED CITIES THAT THE GERMANS HAD DESTROYED. LIVING CONDITIONS WERE AWFUL FOR THE SOVIETS WERE ESPECIALLY BRUTAL AND VENGEFUL TOWARDS THE GERMANS FOR THE BRUTALITY SHOWN BY THE NAZIS INSIDE THEIR COUNTRY. OVER TWO MILLION GERMANS THAT WERE CAPTURED SUFFERED MALNUTRION, DISEASE AND TORTURE AND NEVER SAW GERMANY AGAIN INCLUDING ONE OF MY UNCLES!

How many people died from disease during the holocaust?

There is no approximate answer to that, however, 6 million Jewish people died during the Holocaust because of the Nazi's cruelty.

Why is only albumin decreased in protein energy malnutrition?

Albumin may or may not be decreased in protein energy malnutrion. Albumin is not always a good indicator for protein energy malnutrition (several other factors may decrease albumin that have nothing to do with nutrition state). Several other lab values may also be low if a person has protein energy malnutrition ( These labs include but are not limited to prealbumn and transferrin). Often studies will use albumin as an indicator for this type of malnutrition because of several factors including cost and standardization of data. A low albumin when it is truly an indicator of malnutrition (signified by a diet inadequate in calories/protein or a problem preventing an individual from absorption of nutrients) is low because it is a protein made in the body. When the body has inadequate amounts of protein from a diet too low in protein or inadequate protein stores in the body, it will not be able to make as many of the proteins that belong in the blood (one of which is albumin).

Can Anorexia Nervosa lead to malnutrition?

Eating disorders that can cause malnutrition are most commonly anorexia and bulimia. In both, the body is not gaining the essential nutrients (vitamins, minerals, calories, fats, ect.) that it needs because the individual is not eating enough food (anorexia) or is purging / vomiting the food back up (bulimia), so the body does not get enough of what it needs daily. As a result, it must rely on stores of nutrients and calories (energy) from fat and mucle cells. This will soon run out, and the body becomes malnourished.
