Less than 7.0, but never negative. ___________________________________________________________________ Acidic solutions have a pH that is less than 7. This means that the concentration of the H+ ion (or more accurately the H3O+ ion) is greater than 1x10-7M. Since pH is the negative logarithm of the hydronium ion.

The Ph level determines if a solution is Acid or Alkaline. The Ph value of 7.0 is neutral; in between the two extremes. For example, you can have your soil tested for the Ph level to determine if it is acidic or alkaline. Some plants such as tomatoes prefer acidic soil. Some prefer the opposite or neutral.

A base is the opposite of an acid. At a more advanced level, in the Bronsted-Lowry theory a base is an acceptor of protons, and in the Lewis theory it is an electron donor.
