They each present their own unique challenges, but if you're going to get hit a tornado is more dangerous. While death tolls in hurricanes are usually higher than in tornadoes, that is mostly because hurricanes cover a much larger area. By contrast, while tornadoes affect a much smaller area they tend to produce more severe damage and there is less warning time. When a hurricane is coming you usually have a couple day's warning, while with a tornado you have minutes, and occasionally no warning.

Overall, tornadoes are more dangerous. A hurricane is more likely to kill a significant number of people, but that is because a hurricane is much large, putting more people at risk. Tornadoes develop much more quickly than hurricanes. You can have several days warning with an approching hurricane. With a tornado you have, on average, 14 minutes warning, which is not enough time to evacuate. After touching down a tornado can become very intense in a matter of seconds. Additionally, although tornadoes are more localized than hurricanes, the damage they cause is generally more severe.

To start off, hurricanes and typhoons are essentially the same thing, only ocurring in different parts of the world. They can be described the the general term "tropical cyclone." Aside from that, it is entirely a matter of opinion. Both tornadoes and tropical cyclones can be truly terrifying to those who experience them. A person who experiences one may downplay how scary the other is. Tropical cyclones often leave people trapped between rising floodwaters and powerful winds, while tornadoes can be terrifying in their suddeness and sheer violence.

A hurricane is a kind of cyclone. Hurricanes (or typhoons or severe cyclonic storms as they are called in other parts of the world) are pretty much the most dangerous variety.

What is stronger a tornado or hurricane?

In most cases hurricane winds and tornado wind actually fall into the same range, though tornadoes can achieve much stronger winds. Both hurricanes and tornadoes produce wind as a result of low pressure at the center of the storm. Tornadoes. produce a similar pressure drop to hurricanes, but over a shorter distance, which exerts a greater force.

Is an EF5 tornado worse than a category 5 hurricane?

It depends. Hurricane ratings are based on measured wind speed, so a hurricane can become a category 5 but stay at sea, causing no damage. Tornado ratings are based on damage severity, so if a tornado is rated EF5, at least one well-built structure must have been completely obliterated. However, a hurricane that makes landfall at category 5 intensity can be expected to be much worse than most EF5 tornadoes.

What's worse hurricane or tornado?

A hurricane is generally worse. Since they are much larger than tornadoes they can cause more damage and kill more people. e.g. A number of hurricanes have killed over 1,000 people, but only one known tornado has done the same. However, somewhat paradoxically, a tornado is more dangerous. This is because tornadoes are more violent than hurricanes, are harder to predict, and form much more quickly.
