Lots of fiction authors like to put the story from one characters point of view, even if it isn't technically first person (in that case the character would be the "protagonist"or main/lead character)

But a narrative work is often like a diary/journal or memory

Narrative works are texts that tell a story, usually involving characters, events, and a plot. They can come in various forms such as novels, short stories, poems, and plays, and aim to engage readers by presenting a sequence of events in a structured and coherent manner.

A narrative is a story or description of something that happened, might have happened, or could happen. It can be fiction or factual, or a combination of both.

Non-narrative text is anything that is written but is not a telling of events. So it could be a lyrical poem, or a table of information such as a telephone directory or a dictionary.
