Use Plastic Cleaner. If you really want results. Wet sand the lense with 600 grit, then 1000 grit, then 1500 grit and finally 2000 grit sand paper. After sanding is complete, use the plastic cleaner to remove the scratches. You can also use plastic cleaner on taillights as well.

At one point in time it was recommended to clean headlights with sandpaper. Times change and rubbing compound replaced sandpaper. Ultimately the rubbing compounds were assisted with and replaced by polish.

Today polish has achieved a wide acceptance. However polish is being dethroned by deoxidizers. The Deoxidizer does two things that none of the predecessors could.

1. Remove oxidation without damaging the protective UV coating

2. Remove oxidation on contact.

It is by comparison " The easiest (safest, cleanest and fastest) way to remove oxidation off car headlights.

There is one basic problem that headlight have. They loose their ability to shed light on the road ahead.

This can be from three external reasons.

1. Oxidation: Naturally occurring coating on the out side of headlight lens

2. Road wear: Highway driving can scratch and pit a lens

3. Operator Damage: This happens when someone uses an abrasive headlight cleaning kit to clean oxidation off their headlights

The best solution to each is different.

For oxidation , a pure liquid non abrasive deoxidizer is best. No surface damage

For road wear, a very fine polish is best. Minimal surface damage

For operator damage, such as a previous cleaning with abrasives, you will need a complex resurfacing kit, that involves several steps, including rubbing compounds, several grades of polish and a lens sealer. These kits usually require the use of a power drill, goggles, and gloves. They also use a method to spray on a sealer as opposed to brusing it on with a sponge. These kits are best to clean headlights that have severe damage.

What works the best, I think ,are the MEGUIARS DEEP CUT or MEDIUM CUT CLEANERS. They are available at many auto part stores. Not all paint can be brought back, however if it can, these products will do it. I hope this helps you. Mark Many use PITTMAN'S VaporWax. It is a mist on acrylic paint conditioner that eleminates the need of wax, inhibits the formation of rust removes surface oxidation and leaves a radiant shine on acrylic painted surfaces. One application will last for months. There's oxidation those products won't cut through. If you have that kind of damage, try DuPont Polishing Compound, or one of the fifty other white polishing compounds on the market. It's the mildest of the paste abrasives sold to car painters, and you get it at a store that sells automotive paint. Just ask for "white polishing compound." Use carefully--if you get too happy while you're rubbing out the oxidation, you can rub right through the paint. If your car is gray when you're done and it wasn't when you started, you rubbed too hard.

Oxidation can be instantly removed from modern automotive acrylic paint with an acrylic paint conditioner.

Conditioners contain no water, wax or polish. They react to the painted surface on contact. Conditioners are normally applied once a month to a vehicles paint to keep it free of oxidation and rust. Acrylic Paint Conditioners also leave a radiant shine on painted surfaces.

== == == == For oxidation, which is a natural build up of loose oxygen electrons, the best products to use are pure liquid non abrasive deoxidizers. They will cause no surface damage. If oxidation is accompanied by highway damage that has scratched and pitted the lens, a very fine polish that will cause minimal surface damage might be needed. If the damage was caused from someone using an abrasive headlight cleaning kit or there is severe damage, a complex resurfacing kit will be needed, which will require several steps and the use of a power drill, goggles, and gloves.
