PID 1 on a Unix or Unix-like system is init. You cannot kill init.
Why does not unix use 0 as a valid process identifier?
0 is used as a Valid Process identifier. It is used as the PPID for /etc/init that starts everything on the server. The PPID Is the Parent Process Identifier.
