Polling the jury is a process that can occur after a jury has returned a verdict, to verify that the result read in court was the decision actually reached by the jurors, either unanimously or by majority vote. Either the prosecuting attorney or the defense attorney can request that the jury be polled. The process involves the judge asking each individual juror if they are in agreement with the verdict.
*The traditional way is still very popular. One goes along to the polling station, gets a voting slip and votes for the candidate by putting an X by his/her name. One then puts the slip in the ballot box. (Just before one is handed the voting slip the polling clerk perforates it. The perforation varies from one polling station to another and is intended to make it difficult for anyone to put in additional votingslips). *One can vote by post, but one has to apply in advance for a postal vote. *In some areas one can vote online. Please note that in some local elections one can vote for more than one candidate. In elections to the Scottish Parliament, the Northern Ireland Assembly, the Welsh Assembly and the European Parliament a system of proportional representation operates. Joncey
