Usually our fear of contact stems from a fear of being misunderstood or that we will not be rewarded for our statement or idea.
Something i've done to maximize the bond between people who have been friends for many years and searched through each others personalities and processes is to make a list of fears and inadequacies. Then provide that list to them and saying something like this: "these are the things i try to hide from most people. I'd like to see if you think I'm crazy for thinking these thoughts or sane for keeping them to myslef?"
Some reactions are poor and some are great, but in the end all results work out well.
